A plea, from fellow believers in South Africa,
not to be as wise as doves
As an organisation of mostly evangelical Christians in South Africa
and other countries, I make a plea to you not to go ahead with the burning of Korans on 11
September.
As Christians for Truth we understand your anger against militant
Islam which persecutes Christians and bans the Bible in some of their countries such as
Saudia Arabia. Yes, Islam often opts for violence and is spreading hate around the world.
That is why your proposed action is a bad example. You are almost sinking as low as
radical muslims.
Your example, last night on the BBC Worldservice, of obeying the
Scriptural precident of Acts 19, a clear misinterpretation of a beautiful example of
revival in Ephesus. They did not burn OTHER people's books, but, when the believers fell
under the conviction of the Holy Spirit they brought their OWN sins to the light and
publically burnt their OWN occult books. That revival is no excuse to burn books which you
do not own. It would have been more understandable if your burning of Korans was because
they are owned by some members of your Dove World Outreach Center who were saved OUT of
Islam.
You have based the name of your church on the significance of the
Holy Spirit as a dove. The dove which came upon Jesus after being baptised by John did not
cause the Saviour to burn Pharisee books. He was wiser than that. Yes, he publically
attacked the sins of the religious leaders because of their hypocrisy. He burned their
legalism with the fire of the Holy Spirit.
Remember that Jesus instructed us to be "as wise as serpents
and as peaceful as doves". It seems that your planned action to burn Korans displays
the wisdom of doves (which are known to be the less intelligent of God's creatures) and
the peacefulness of serpents (which is inspired by the animosity of hell).
PLEASE reconsider! Repent of this deception which will bring shame
upon the Name of our Lord! Become as peaceful as the dove which your church is named
after.
In Christ
